Holocaust Project

In this project students will locate 25-30 Holocaust Concentration Camps. These camp locations will be placed on a map of Europe with various information about each camp. These Concentration Camps are then classified through the use of a Legend. Students will also link seven different Concentration Camp locations to video testimonies from Holocaust Survivors.

Students worked independently on this project receiving only verbal directions throughout the entire project demonstrating their ability to utilize GIS software effectively.

Recycling Web Page

This project focuses on using FrontPage to create a simple web page. Our focus in class is on spreading awareness about Recycling. After visiting the Recycling center here in Montgomery County, we felt moved to get the word out about the reasons why to recycle, how to recycle, and how the materials are recycled.

Environmental Crisis Project

Currently we are finishing our presentations for the Environmental Crisis Project.

This project focuses on Environmental problems across the world. Our focus in class is on the utilization of teamwork to create a media packet. All students are part of advertising companies that will work to attempt to win the bid for the advertising campaign.

In this project students will track the development and the progression of the Blues utilizing maps, biographies, songs, and pictures. This project is the first project where students will be able to link sound files in their ArcView maps.

Gettysburg Project

In this project students studied the Battle of Gettysburg. The culmination activity was a one hundred minute class period team taught by the US History Teacher (Ed Morrell) and the GIS teacher (Ted Gardiner) utilizing GIS information to see the historical significance of the Battle of Gettysburg. We then take a Field Study to Gettysburg National Park and visit different locations.

El Nino and La Nina

In this project students studied the climatic phenomena El Nino and La Nina by downloading images from the GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment) website. They will incorporate these images into an ArcView project and identify patterns and characteristics of these phenomena, then assess the impact these anomalies have on the global and local environment.

Growing Pains Project

In this project students compared the processes and implications of population growth in the world's fastest and slowest growing regions: sub-Saharan Africa and Europe. Through the analysis of standard of living indicators in these two regions, students will explore some of the social and economic implications of rapid population growth.

In this project students used the Internet to acquire the most recent data on earthquakes and volcanoes worldwide. Students constructed a current World Tectonic Hot Spots map.

Water World

This project focused on the idea if the rapidly warming climate of the earth will cause the ice sheets of Antarctica to break apart and melt at a much faster rate than was predicted a hundred years earlier. Students study the impact this change will have on the planet.
